this kapla kid supposed to be good? Might bet the over tonight. Hard to predict how often we'll light up the lamp now with all the kids in the lineup |

Winnipeg has thrown the Devils a couple of beatings and I'd expect more of the same.
I have to disagree with Todd. While I'm all for getting the younger players ice time the play hasn't been that entertaining. It looks like every time they carry into the offensive zone they are just winging it with little plan on how they're going to generate scoring chances. There is so little play development. People complain about the trap, which I was fine watching. But watching Hynes' supposed 'fast, attacking, supportive' offense is worse in my opinion.
I swear, I almost miss the Pete DeBoer cycle of death offense.... almost. |

His numbers look pretty decent and he's the captain of a pretty good UML team. Lots of assists |

this kapla kid supposed to be good? Might bet the over tonight. Hard to predict how often we'll light up the lamp now with all the kids in the lineup - rawwdogg88 This is what I found: Michael Kapla, Defence, Umass-Lowell River Hawks, Senior (6’0″ 201 lbs) Shoots Left
The captain of the Red Hawks for the last two years, Kapla has scored two goals and 26 points in 34 games this season. Kapla is a solid skater who covers a lot of ice, he has good pivots and transitions from offence to defence quickly and vice-versa. He maintains good gap control and is sound positionally. Kapla is not afraid to be physical in front of the net, or in the corners. He is also a good shot blocker. Kapla needs some work on his shot, but he can provide offence. He is calm and poised with the puck, and makes good passes out of his own zone, and from the point.

I agree about the lack of a game plan, although maybe the young guys just can't execute it? Tough for us to say. But it does look like a tryout at times out there and guys are just freelancing. It's slightly entertaining chaos...at least when Wood is out there.

I think you hit the nail on the head. It looks like a lot of freelancing out there. The effort has generally been good but it's just not sharp play.
It's hard to judge how much of this is the on the players and how much is on the coaches. I know I'm disgusted with how soft they play D and I think that's the system. |

System is definitely a failure, same goes for a coaching stuff. Players most likely quit on the coach and his system. Otherwise, it is hard to explain why they are loosing.
Sure our defense not build for NHL. But we have enough talent to score more regardless. |

When the debate becomes the personnel vs the system of the coach I have a hard time coming to a consensus. But I tend to sway towards the coaching staff if for no other reason than the one you mentioned. Sure, bad teams with less talent lose but they at least score goals. And there are plenty of example, albeit not as many nowadays, where you can thrive without need 4 goals a game.
I always hear Hynes say "tough on the puck" and "win battles" but is that a game plan? I see no adjustments late in games, when they have a lead I never see them protect it without giving up opportunities. Their special teams are average at best, I don't see a lot of set plays off of faceoffs. I just don't know what this teams identity is or what it's supposed to be according to the coach. |

Sounds like exactly what we're missing on defense. |

Good point about Hynes. We aren't tough on the puck and don't win a lot battles. They are simply a rejection of the previous Devil's team but no identity beyond the tag line 'fast, attacking and supportive' which they aren't.
What I find confusing is the it doesn't look like the players have quit but the results are horrific. |

Well Deboer is a good coach, while Hynes doesn't seem to be one. |

Game over 52 seconds in. Cool. |
|

I missed the whole game cleaning an attic and getting covered in fiberglass and filth.
Feel like I got lucky!
(Missing the game, not because I'm dirty and itchy)
(Because sometimes after getting lucky you feel dirty and itchy, but that's not what I meant)
(I should probably delete this post...) |

We should have found a way to lose that one in regulation. I get the feeling we will keep squeaking out points while the Nucks manage to get blown out of every game they are in . Good on the boys though it's just to bad it doesn't really matter lol |

As everyone already knows, the loser point, any points really, are meaningless right now. In fact they hurt the future, but this team seems set on sticking with mediocrity. There are no "moral" victories right now, you are what your record says you are, so if you suck, you might as well suck big time. |

I do not know how you can mention Pete DeBoer in such a bad light! Name me another coach who in his first year as a head coach of a team got them to the Stanley Cup finals. For much of this year I have been saying that John Hynes will probably be a coach who wins a few Cups as a coach just not with the Devils, but after seeing this team in the last month quit on their coach, and watching all the veterans that were expected to carry this team get worse( Hall,Zajac,Palmeiri, etc) I retract that thought completely! Lifeless arenas and even more lifeless locker rooms get coaches fired!! |
